Messi, The Next World's Best Player

Lionel Messi looks brilliant this season, having peak success in bringing Barcelona Champions League win out. Is sign he will become the next world's best players?
Appear since the beginning, the name Messi has been publicized potential to become one of the world's best players. With the tiny size of the body but it has the ball skills of extremes, then he is considered as a perfect reincarnation of Diego Maradona.

Last year he failed to get the best status after defeated by Cristiano Ronaldo, either in France Football or FIFA owned event. But at predawn ( May 28 ) he gone to show who is actually the best under the horizon.

Appear extraordinary along the fight, Messi ended the climax of this season with two goals contributed to the Catalans. His best performance was paid by the status man of the match in a fight that ended 2-0.

That was the ninth goal of Messi on UEFA Champions throughout this season. Goal that reinforces himself as a top skorer, defeated the winner of the last season, Ronaldo, after he just made four goals.

All the above data are enough to Messi to be the candidate of the best player this year. But there were other unique facts that made this 21 years old has already be considered asthe world's best players, even though the event held at the end of the year.

In the last two years, football player that selected as the world's best players is that they strengthen the Champions League winner, and also recorded as the top skorer. The first one who did it is Kaka, after AC Milan been a champion and successfully completed as a top skorer after converting 10 goals.

Ronaldo, last years did the same. Contributed eight goals throughout the competition, The Portugal's Winger standed at the top of the list after The Red Devils vanquished Chelsea through penalty in the final match.

So, if Messi could bring Barca as The Treble Winners of this year, deservedly, the title of world's best players fall into the hands of the 21 years old youth.

Content is paramount so far as blogging goes. No less important is to promote your blog contents. How bad it feels if your painstaking effort in making a good article doesn’t attract too much attention.

There are at least two ways on how to promote your blog.

1. Link exchange: it’s useful to have a higher Google PR (page ranking)

2. Blog submission. Submit your blog to free blog directory.

Here are the blog directory I found on the internet. A few of them requires you to put their badge / chicklet / logo in your blog, if it’s the case just follow the requirements and remove them once your blog has been accepted.

Another Way to get Traffic

Dear All my reader. Here's a another trick to increase your blog's traffic, and of course it's potential to increase your income as well, heheh..! Check it out...

Use lists.
  • Be topical... write posts that need to be read right now.
  • Learn enough to become the expert in your field.
  • Break news.
  • Be timeless... write posts that will be readable in a year.
  • Be among the first with a great blog on your topic, then encourage others to blog on the same topic.
  • Share your expertise generously so people recognize it and depend on you.
  • Announce news.
  • Write short, pithy posts.
  • Encourage your readers to help you manipulate the technorati top blog list.
  • Don't write about your cat, your boyfriend or your kids.
  • Write long, definitive posts.
  • Write about your kids.
  • Be snarky. Write nearly libelous things about fellow bloggers, daring them to respond (with links back to you) on their blog.
  • Be sycophantic. Share linklove and expect some back.
  • Include polls, meters and other eye candy.
  • Tag your posts. Use del.ico.us.
  • Coin a term or two.
  • Do email interviews with the well-known.
  • Answer your email.
  • Use photos. Salacious ones are best.
  • Be anonymous.
  • Encourage your readers to digg your posts. (and to use furl and reddit). Do it with every post.
  • Post your photos on flickr.
  • Encourage your readers to subscribe by RSS.
  • Start at the beginning and take your readers through a months-long education.
  • Include comments so your blog becomes a virtual water cooler that feeds itself.
  • Assume that every day is the beginning, because you always have new readers.
  • Highlight your best posts on your Squidoo lens.
  • Point to useful but little-known resources.
  • Write about stuff that appeals to the majority of current blog readers--like gadgets and web 2.0.
  • Write about Google.
  • Have relevant ads that are even better than your content.
  • Don't include comments, people will cross post their responses.
  • Write posts that each include dozens of trackbacks to dozens of blog posts so that people will notice you.
  • Run no ads. (better)
  • Keep tweaking your template to make it include every conceivable bell or whistle.
  • Write about blogging.
  • Digest the good ideas of other people, all day, every day.
  • Invent a whole new kind of art or interaction.
  • Post on weekdays, because there are more readers.
  • Write about a never-ending parade of different topics so you don't bore your readers.
  • Post on weekends, because there are fewer new posts.
  • Don't interrupt your writing with a lot of links.
  • Dress your blog (fonts and design) as well as you would dress yourself for a meeting with a stranger.
  • Edit yourself. Ruthlessly.
  • Don't promote yourself and your business or your books or your projects at the expense of the reader's attention.
  • Be patient.
  • Give credit to those that inspired, it makes your writing more useful.
  • Ping technorati. Or have someone smarter than me tell you how to do it automatically.
  • Write about only one thing, in ever-deepening detail, so you become definitive.
  • Write in English.
  • Write about obscure stuff that appeals to an obsessed minority.
  • Don't be boring.
  • Write stuff that people want to read and share.

Increase Adsense Earning Without Increasing Traffic

I have spent a long time trying to improve the advertising earnings on my websites and I have managed to go from a couple of dollars a month to 3 figures in a relatively short time, without increasing the amount of visitors to my site.
The tips I am about to tell you are what worked for me, but I encourage you to try different things as each site is unique.

1. Colour and Position

This is probably the optimization which is mentioned most regularly, but it’s for good reason. You really should experiment with different ad positions and different colour combinations. Each time you make a change leave the ads for a week and see how your earnings alter. Make a note of what works and then try something new. I was always sceptical when I read these comments before but since I have started playing with positioning my adsense revenue has multiplied by 4 times (crazy but true). Personally I’ve found that blending ads into the site works very well but it’s not the only way and you should try all the combinations you can think of.

2. Different date, different adverts

This is one of my favourites and I intend to write a post on how to do this next week, for now I will stick to the what and why.
In simple terms, the older the page the more ads you show.
Despite the fact that I have advertising, I don’t actually like it. I have 0 to very few adverts on new posts, and increase the ads on older ones. This isn’t so obvious here on Binary Moon, but on Binary Joy I have gone a little crazy - but there is a method to my madness. The theory is that older posts will be more appealing to search engines, and visitors who come from search engines are more likely to click on ads. Another side effect is that I “reward” regular visitors by not annoying them with adverts, so I feel this is a good compromise. As I said above I’ll go into this one in more detail next week (with code).

3. Content Targeting

This one is a very simple change and is ridiculously straight forward to implement. Google have a simple comment tag that you can place around your primary content, and this is what your ads will be targeted to.
<!-- google_ad_section_start --> Key page content here <!-- google_ad_section_end -->
The idea is that you place these comments around your core page content. That is, the content which is mostly text, and which best reflects the content of your site. On a blog this will generally be the main post content. The reason you do this is so that the adverts don’t target irrelevant content such as the links in your sidebar.
You can also add regions you want Google to ignore. I haven’t used these myself but they are something I intend to try in the not too distant future. You can read more on the section targeting page of the Google Adsense help.

4. Referrals

Google Referrals don’t make me a huge amount of money, but I like to include them on all my sites. Currently I only use one referral package and it only displays in Internet Explorer on the PC. It’s for the Firefox browser, and earns me roughly a dollar for every new install I generate. Some sneaky css removes the ad for Firefox users so that they don’t get pestered with unnecessary adverts.
To do the show/ hide css on your refferal code all I do is have a div with my referral button in it, which I hide. I then use conditional css comments to load some css to display the advert in IE.
I’ve put together a simple example of what I mean below. Just copy and paste the code below into a new htm document and then view it in IE and Firefox. In IE you will see the ad block at the top of the page, in Firefox is “magically” disappears.
<html> <head>  <title>Ad Show Hide demo</title>  <style>  #adDiv {   display:none;  }  </style>   <!--[if IE]>  <style>  #adDiv {   display:block;    /* some extra styles to make the ad stand out */   border:1px solid #eee;   padding:10px;  }  </style>  <![endif]-->  </head> <body>  <div id="adDiv">Stick your advert in here</div>  <h2>Ad test</h2>  <p>Some page content</p> </body> </html>

5. SEO and Content

I get about 75% of my traffic from search engines and, in my opinion, search engine visitors are the ones most likely to click on adverts, far more so than the regular visitors (which ties into the date based adverts above). Search engine visitors are on a journey to find some information, if they can’t find what they want on my site then they might as well find it on one of my advertisers sites, and that’s the good thing about contextual advertising - the ads are relevant to my readers. Your turn Do you run ads on your site, and do you have any hints and tips you want to share? I’m sure everyone would be interested in reading you tips in the comments below. (Binarymoon)

Increase Your Blog Traffic

Google Webmaster Tools have been around for a while now, but many bloggers do not know how to utilize these tools to increase blog traffic. I use two quick and easy techniques, Sitemaps and Robots.txt, that I will discuss in this article.

Add Your Blog Sitemap

Step 1: Find Your Blog Sitemap

A blog sitemap is an XML feed of every link available on your blog. By default most blogging platforms, including WordPress, Blogger, and Moveable Type, have an RSS feed preinstalled on your blog. An RSS feed is a feed made using XML so there is no setup, it’s already there!

Examples for popular blog platforms:

WordPress - http://www.blogname.com/rss
Blogger - http://blogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
Moveable Type - http://www.blogname.com/atom.xml
Feed Burner - http://feeds.feedburner.com/blogname

Just replace blogname with the name of your site. Use the examples above to figure out what your feed URL is. You will need it in the next step.

Step 2: Load your blog sitemap in to Google Webmaster Tools

Visit the Google Webmaster Tools Home Page and login to your Google account. If you don’t have a Google account, register one real quick.

Once logged in to the Tools dashboard you will see a textbox at the top allowing you to add your blog:

Google Webmaster Tools Dashboard Screenshot

Type your site URL in and click the “Add Site” button.

Next you will need to Verify your blog to Google. Click the “Verify your site” link and follow the instructions given by Google.

Once you have verified your blog click the “Sitemaps” menu item from the left hand side and click the “Add A Sitemap” link.

Select “Add General Web Sitemap” when asked to Choose Type. You will then see a text box to enter in your RSS feed URL like this:

Add Sitemap Tool

Enter your feed URL and click the “Add General Web Sitemap” button and your done! Once Google verifies your feed is in the proper format they will then crawl your feed daily to look for new links.

The benefit of providing Google with a sitemap is to help them improve how they crawl your blog. Over time you will start to notice an increase in search engine ranking which will result in more traffic.

Add Your Robots.txt File

Step 1: Update/create your robots.txt file

A robots.txt file is a small text file placed on your blogs web server that tells search engines what they are allowed, and not allowed, to index on your blog. Most blogs come with a robots.txt file preinstalled. Check to see if your blog has one by visiting the following URL on your blog:

http://www.blogname.com/robots.txt

Just replace blogname with the name of your site. We are going to create a new robots.txt file so it doesn’t matter if you do not currently have a robots.txt file on your blog.

Create a text file named robots.txt on your desktop. Enter the following code in to your newly created file:

User-agent: *
Disallow:
Sitemap: http://www.blogname.com/sitemap.xml

User-agent: * - indicates to all search engines they are allowed to crawl your site
Disallow: - incidates what URLs to exclude from being crawled by search engines. Since we are not entering a value to the right we are telling all search engines to crawl everything on your blog
Sitemap: http://www.blogname.com/sitemap.xml - indicates to the search engines where your sitemap is located. Use the sitemap link from the previous tip.

Save your file and upload to the root directory of your server. Google looks for a robots.txt file on your blog once a day. You can verify that Google finds your file by visiting the following Webmaster Tool section:

Dashboard > Tools > Analyze robots.txt

That’s it! Now all search engines will know where your sitemap is located from your robots.txt file. The major benefit of this is to help search engines find your new posts and links easier.

Google Webmaster Tools offer some really great statistics about how Google crawls and indexes your blog. Make sure you poke around in the other sections.

The First Crucial Step in Optimizing Your Site

SEO crucial Yes, keyword analysis plays the most essential part in search engine optimization process. It needs careful and thorough study and research as this will later on lure internet users to your site. Prepare a list of keywords or phrases related to your products or services. Analyze every word you have in the list, find out its related terms and compare which is commonly used by users. You will be surprised to see there are lots of terminologies people are using on a specific word that would mean the same thing in your list. It's better to use different tools available online to know how many are actually searching on a specific keyword or phrase everyday so you would only focus on the popular ones and get rid of the least searchable terms. Ideally, it's not advisable to have bulks of keywords as it will be hard to maintain and deal with them in the future. Just stick to 3 to 5 best profitable keywords.
  • Page URL
Placing keywords in the URL can gain advantage in search engines and can help achieve high ranks in Search engine Results Page (SERP). But this is not advisable to well-established and high-ranked sites. This is only worth considering in creating new page or site. Make sure to make a sensible one by not abusing the keywords. Here's a good tip in creating a domain name: separate words or phrases by a hyphen (-) or underscores (_) and do not write them as a single word as search engine will understand them as one word.

  • Web Page Optimization
Keywords properly placed in your web page will definitely pull you up in SERP. Titles are weighed more than any other else in the HTML code. Place the most important keyword at the beginning of the title followed by the support words. But don't over stuff them. Insert other keywords in your "meta description" and "meta keywords". Make a unique title, descriptions and keywords in every page to avoid conflict with search engines especially when you check on the Google webmaster tool. Your web content should also include keywords in bold, highlighted, emphasized and placed in headers to inform search engines of their importance. Also use keywords in alt image attributes.
  • Off-page Optimization (Inbound Links)
Get links from different site! Web page optimization should be supported by LINKS from other sites. Use your keywords as an anchor text. Search engine loves context clues. It helps search engines informed of what your site is all about. The more links you have from reputable and related sites, the faster you will rank in search engines.

How Google Works 3

The Google Services

As Google has grown, the company has added several new services for its users. Some of the services are designed to help make Web searches more efficient and relevant, while others seem to have little in common with search engines. With many of its services, Google has entered into direct competition with other companies.

Google's specialized searches are an extension of its normal search engine protocol. With specialized searches, you can narrow your search to specific resources. You can enter keywords into Google and search for:

  • Images related to your keywords
  • Maps
  • News articles or footage
  • Products or services you can purchase online
  • Blog entries containing the keywords you've chosen
  • Content in books
  • Videos
  • Scholarly papers

For these searches, Google has created specialized indexes that only contain relevant sources. For example, if you search for the term "Planet Earth" in the news category, the results will include only news articles that contain those keywords. The results will look very different from Google's normal SERP.
In the last few years, Google has unveiled services that don't relate to search engines upon first glance. For example, Google's Gmail is a free Web-based e-mail program. When the service first launched, Google limited the number of users who could create accounts. The first group of users could invite a limited number of people to join the service, and so Gmail invitations became a commodity. Today, anyone can sign up for a free Gmail account.

Gmail organizes e-mails into conversations. This means that when you send an e-mail to someone and he or she replies, both e-mails are grouped together as a thread in your inbox. This makes it easier to follow the flow of an e-mail exchange. If you reply to your friend's response, Google will attach your message to the bottom of the thread. It's easy to navigate through the e-mail program and follow specific conversations.

Another free service from Google is Google Docs, a storage database and collaborative productivity software suite. It includes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs. Creating a Docs account is free and allows you to store up to 5,000 documents and images online. Each document can be up to 500 kilobytes, and each embedded image can be up to 2 megabytes. You can share documents on Google Docs, which allows your friends to view and make changes to documents. You can also store all of your documents on Google's servers and access them wherever there's an Internet connection.

In the next section, we'll look at some specialized Google tools.(howstuffworks.com)

How Google Works 1

People using Google
Torsten Silz/AFP/Getty Images

What began as a project helmed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two students in Stanford University's Ph.D. program, is now one of the most influential companies on the World Wide Web: Google. At first, the students' goal was to make an efficient search engine that gave users relevant links in response to search requests. While that's still Google's core purpose today, the company now provides services ranging from e-mail and document storage to productivity software and mobile phone operating systems. In less than a decade, Google evolved from a two-man enterprise to a multibillion-dollar corporation.

Today, Google's popularity continues to grow. In 2007, the company surpassed Microsoft as the most visited site on the Web [source: Kopytoff]. The company's influence on the Web is undeniable. Practically every webmaster wants his or her site listed high on Google's search engine results pages (SERPs), because it almost always translates into more traffic on the corresponding Web site. Google has also acquired other Internet companies, ranging from blogging services to the video-sharing site YouTube. For a while, the company's search technology even powered rival companies' search engines -- Yahoo! relied on Google searches for nearly four years until developing its own search engine technologies in 2004 [sources: Google; Hu and Olsen].

Google's influence isn't limited to just the Web. In 2007, company executives announced their intention to enter the FCC's auction of the wireless spectrum in the 700 megahertz (MHz) band. That part of the wireless spectrum previously belonged to analog television broadcasters. Google representatives said the company entered the auction to foster competition within the wireless service industry. Google supported an open technology approach to wireless service in which consumers could use any device with any provider rather than face limited choices determined by the provider and its preferred vendors. In order to participate in the auction, Google had to prove it was ready to meet the reserve price for the spectrum: $4.6 billion. Ultimately, Google didn't win the auction. But the company still achieved its main goal -- Verizon, which won the bid, must follow the open technology approach Google wanted.

In this article, we'll learn about the backbone of Google's business: its search engine. We'll also look at the other services Google offers to both average users and to commercial businesses. Then we'll take a quick peek at some of the tools Google has developed over the years. We'll also learn more about the equipment Google uses to keep its massive operation running. Finally, we'll take a closer look at Google the company.

In the next section, we'll explore the Google search engine. (howstuffworks.com)

Google's search engine is a powerful tool. Without search engines like Google, it would be practically impossible to find the information you need when you browse the Web. Like all search engines, Google uses a special algorithm to generate search results. While Google shares general facts about its algorithm, the specifics are a company secret. This helps Google remain competitive with other search engines on the Web and reduces the chance of someone finding out how to abuse the system.

Google uses automated programs called spiders or crawlers, just like most search engines. Also like other search engines, Google has a large index of keywords and where those words can be found. What sets Google apart is how it ranks search results, which in turn determines the order Google displays results on its search engine results page (SERP). Google uses a trademarked algorithm called PageRank, which assigns each Web page a relevancy score.

A Web page's PageRank depends on a few factors:

  • The frequency and location of keywords within the Web page: If the keyword only appears once within the body of a page, it will receive a low score for that keyword.
  • How long the Web page has existed: People create new Web pages every day, and not all of them stick around for long. Google places more value on pages with an established history.
  • The number of other Web pages that link to the page in question: Google looks at how many Web pages link to a particular site to determine its relevance.

Out of these three factors, the third is the most important. It's easier to understand it with an example. Let's look at a search for the terms "Planet Earth."

As more Web pages link to Discovery's Planet Earth page, the Discovery page's rank increases. When Discovery's page ranks higher than other pages, it shows up at the top of the Google search results page.

Because Google looks at links to a Web page as a vote, it's not easy to cheat the system. The best way to make sure your Web page is high up on Google's search results is to provide great content so that people will link back to your page. The more links your page gets, the higher its PageRank score will be. If you attract the attention of sites with a high PageRank score, your score will grow faster.

Google initiated an experiment with its search engine in 2008. For the first time, Google is allowing a group of beta testers to change the ranking order of search results. In this experiment, beta testers can promote or demote search results and tailor their search experience so that it's more personally relevant. Google executives say there's no guarantee that the company will ever implement this feature into the search engine globally.

Google offers many different kinds of services in addition to chat. In the next section, we'll see how some of them work.(howstuffworks.com)

Setting Outlook for Yahoo! Mai..l

If you want to POP your Yahoo! Mail Plus into Outlook 2002 or 2003, here's how:

  1. From the Tools menu, select "Email Accounts."
  2. Select the radio button next to "Add a new email account" and click the "Next" button.
  3. Select the radio button next to "POP3" and click the "Next" button.
  4. Enter the following information: User Information
    • Your Name: Enter your name as you'd like it to appear in the "From" field of your outgoing messages.
    • Email Address: Enter your full Yahoo! Mail address (for example, "user@yahoo.com").
    Server Information
    • Incoming mail server (POP3): plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Login Information
    • User Name: Enter your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
    • Password: Enter your Yahoo! password.
  5. Do not check the box next to "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)."
  6. Click the "More Settings" box and select the "Outgoing Server" tab.
  7. Check the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."
  8. Click the “Advanced” tab.
  9. Under “Incoming Server (POP3)”, check the box next to “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)". The port number in the “Incoming Server (POP3)" field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn’t, make sure the port number is set to 995.
  10. Under “Outgoing Server (SMTP)”, check the box next to “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Enter port number “465” in the “Outgoing Server (SMTP)” field.
  11. If you'd like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, click the "Advanced" tab. Check the box next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server." If you want to delete your messages from the Yahoo! Mail server after viewing them in Outlook, don't check the box.
  12. Click the "OK" button.
  13. Click the "Next" button on the Email Account Wizard, then click "Finished."

Troubleshooting instructions.

If you followed the above configuration steps, you should be all set. However, if you cannot send or receive mail with your email client, try the following tips.

The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server requires authentication. Make sure you have enabled SMTP authentication. To turn this setting on, follow these steps:

  1. Click "Tools," then select "Email Accounts."
  2. Select "View or change existing email accounts" and click "Next."
  3. Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click the "Change" button on the right.
  4. Click the "More Settings..." button in the bottom-right corner of the Email Accounts window.
  5. In the Internet Email Settings window, click the "Outgoing Server" tab. Ensure that the box is checked next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."
  6. Click the "Advanced" tab and ensure that you have not selected "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" under the incoming (POP3) or outgoing (SMTP) port settings.

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server, follow these steps:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Email Accounts."
  2. Select the radio button next to "Edit an existing account" and click the "Next" button.
  3. Double-click the Yahoo! account.
  4. Select the "Advanced" tab.
  5. In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Yahoo! Mail server and on your local computer. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server after you have received them in Outlook, do not check this box.

We strongly recommend that you enable SSL for both POP and SMTP, as detailed in the above instructions. This will ensure that your Yahoo! ID, password and email messages are transmitted securely between your mail client and the Yahoo! servers. However, if you choose to not use SSL for SMTP, your email client will likely default the SMTP port to 25. If your ISP blocks port 25 or if you're unable to send email, then you will need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change, please follow the directions below:

  1. From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts"
  2. Select your Yahoo! POP account and click on the "Properties" button
  3. Click on the "Advanced" tab
  4. Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP), change port 25 to 587
  5. Click "Apply", then click "OK" and "Close"

Negative Key Word Improve Pay Per Click Performance

Implementation of negative keywords to your paid search account is one of the most effective methods to improve its performance. Negative keywords allow you to filter out unwanted traffic and only pay for clicks that have a higher probability of converting. Here’s how it works.

Negative Keyword Example

Let’s say you’re selling high-end designer shoes. Your target audience is consumers looking to spend at least $500 on a pair. When reviewing your paid search keyword reports, you find that keywords similar to “designer shoes” tend to convert much better than keywords like “cheap shoes” or “Payless shoes.” In this example, you’d want to add words “cheap” and “Payless” as negative keywords to your paid search campaigns, so that search engines would not display your ads to people who have search on “cheap” or “Payless". Specifically, here’s how excluding “cheap” and “Payless” would impact your ads, using the following search terms.

  • “designer shoes” - your ads would show as usual.
  • “cheap designer shoes” – ads would NOT show (due to “cheap” being part of user’s search term).
  • “Payless shoes” – ads would NOT show (due to “Payless” being part of user’s search term).

How to Locate Negative Keywords

I suggest the following ideas to locate negative keywords for your pay-per-click campaigns.

  • Pull a keyword log from your web analytics provider (i.e. Google Analytics, Yahoo! Analytics) and look beyond the first few pages. Look for instances of keywords that are completely irrelevant to what you do.
  • Pull a Search Query report in Google AdWords; ask Yahoo! Search Marketing support team to send you your search query report. (Yes, they have do that.) Again, look for instances of keywords that are irrelevant to what you do.
  • Look at keyword tools such as Google Keyword Tool, Wordtracker, Keyword Discovery for instances of high traffic keywords similar to what you sell but not applicable to your products (i.e., “shoe donation center” and “donation” would be a good negative keywords for an ecommerce store selling shoes).
  • Brainstorm on your own. Think of obvious keywords that do not apply to your products/store (i.e., “free”, “no cost”, “no charge”, “broken”, and so forth).

Based on my experience, a negative keyword strategy, if implemented correctly, improves campaign efficiency by 10 to 20 percent after the first 60 days.

Conclusion

Negative keywords improve efficiency of your paid search campaigns. They improve click-through-rates since your ads are not shown for irrelevant searches. And they save you money because you filter out users (and clicks) that are unlikely to convert on your site anyway.

Obama, Biden satisfy sizzling burger craving

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are served their burgers as

ARLINGTON, Va. – It's like this: When you want a burger, you have to have a burger.

In this state of mind on Tuesday, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden took a short — but wholly noticeable — motorcade ride from the White House to Virginia and pulled into a small, independent burger joint called Ray's Hell Burger.

The two leaders went right up to the counter where the meat was being grilled and ordered.

Each fetched cash from his pocket and paid, and then the pair stood like the rest and waited for their number to be called before going to a table.

The restaurant, which prides itself on premium aged 10-ounce burgers, sits in a small strip plaza. The burgers sell for $6.95.(yahoo.com)

Facebook for what?

friendship-painting-by-fikruSince the invention of the internet, what sub-invention that attracts me to engage in an online activity is one and only: blogging. The reason is clear: (a) it offers tremendous chance and opportunity for everyone to spread out one’s idea through writing to a lot wider audience without any need to sweat it out. (b) It offers a level-playing field for everyone to publish one’s idea without any barrier of, say, cost and patron. Like what happens in conventional publishing tools.

Blogging i.e. writing, both in free blog providers or in self-hosted blog, is therefore the most important online activity for me. Other internet invention such social networking as Friendster and Facebook and many others are ok so far as these tools support my blogging activities in terms of traffic and blog visibility.

I have Facebook account which main purpose is to drive traffic to my blog by using “imported note” and “feed aggregator” application and some other apps available. Once the applications installed in my Facebook, I’ll let it run its own course. I barely login to my Facebook account eversince. So, if you talk to me through my Facebook’s wall, forgive me if I hardly respond.

I also join almost all free online services such as Mybloglog, Blogcatalog, Twitter, any blog aggregators, you name it I’ve been there. The purpose: to drive more blog traffic. No more no less.

What’s your joining Facebook for?

But many people are joining Facebook for many different reasons some are (could be) as follows:

  1. Obamania: many western analysts attribute Obama’s stunning victory to Facebook. Some even call him the Facebook president. Naturally, any success story will reap fans who will faithfully follow suit. As far as Indonesian is concerned, Obamania in facebook are those would be politicians (caleg or MP candidate) who think they can follow Obama’s path.
  2. Friendster diehard alumni: as Facebook widely regarded as more sophisticated a social networking tools than Friendster it’s natural if Friendster users feel they have graduated from Friendster and needs to go to another level, say PhD level, that is Facebook.
  3. Pure trend followers: Many people do something because it’s done by many others. Many making Facebook account simply because they dont want to be lagged behind. They just dont want to be called outdated. These people just don’t have a clue what they are doing at least the first time they did it.
  4. Just to drive traffic to their blog. I am in this category.
  5. To keep in touch with friends and families (Anita, see her comment below).
  6. To find long lost friend (Edia Permata, see her comment below).
  7. Or you tell me (in the comment box) if you’re not among these four.

Adsense Tips

Google recently held a webinar for AdSense publishers. They gave out some adsense optimization tips that they have gathered over the past few years. The transcript is pretty lengthy, so here’s the summary:

Ad Location - “the middle, above the fold location perform best.” Also “if you have an article page with a long body of text, the bottom of that article is actually pretty successful”

Ad Formats - “the top three formats are the 336×280 that you see on the page; the 300×250 medium rectangle; and then the 160×600 wide skyscraper.” Additionally “the wider ad formats are doing better than the other ones and the reason is that they actually take up fewer lines. And so with every additional line, you have a chance of losing that interested user.”
Ad Colors - Pick colors that blend well with the site. Matches the background color, and compliments the site. Make them feel like a part of the site. They give an example where a customer went from blended background to yellow, and clicks dropped 65%

Ad Blindness - if the colors stick out too much, readers may immediatly identify them as ads and not even look at them. Also frequent readers may stop reading ads so you could alternate positioning and colors to get their attention. “The more you blend in with the site, the less chance that ad blindness will occur.”

Experiment - this was a big theme in the webinar echoed by all experts. Use channels to test different colors, positioning, and formats to find out what works best. They show that you can more than double your revenue just by finding the right color, position, format combo.

Image Ads - If you want to maximize revenue they recommend turning them on. I personally disable them in my account, because I find them too distracting/annoying to the user. Yes you may increase your CPC, but you will probably decrease impressions over time.

Link Units - Don’t take up much space, and also “allows the user to refine what they’re interested in. So if they may not be interested in specific ads on your page, they might be interested in a particular topic, and by clicking on a link unit and a link in the link unit, they’ll be able to specify that they’re interested in that specific topic and get a lot more options and variety on the ads that might appear.” I also bet google remembers what they click on and then tries to generate better ads for the page… just my speculation.

AdSense For Search - You can use this for your site search, and you get a percentage of ad clicks.

Focus on Content - Duh!

Don’t click on your own ads - One of the callers asked the question “I was just noticing that someone asked about clicking on their own ads and it says you’re not supposed to. And I don’t remember reading that. And I occasionally do click on the ads… So is that detrimental in some way?” - I can’t believe they said that to google. Google’s response was: “Yes, that’s sort of chief among the terms and conditions”.

Impression Counter - Google confirmed that Page Impressions are counted when a public service ad (or alternate ad url or color) is displayed.
Your site is unique - all these things may not matter, the best location, format, and color is different for every site. So again, go experiment.

Haven’t signed up for AdSense Yet? (by Google)
